nbc 10 breaking news. the breaking news we're following a deadly crash, right now police are investigating a one-car accident overnight in south philly. two people are dead. we're live on the scene with details and road closures. drone central command. montgomery county's sprawling naval air station is home base for unarmed, unmanned intelligence mission. philadelphia will honor the villanova wildcats with a victory parade through center city. what you need to know to get in on the action. it's a great day for a parade. it will be breezy and cool but as long as you have your jacket,
the weather shouldn't stop you from saluting our national champions. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary connors. it's 4:30 on this friday. meteorologist bill henley is tracking the first alert forecast for us. bill, good thing that the parade is happening today and not yesterday. >> planning, planning, absolutely. yesterday was a rainy day. those rains, showers, thunderstorms that popped up are done. now we've got clearing skies. we'll see sunshine today. it is a chilly wind that's blowing. look at the wind chills this morning. 37 degrees in philadelphia is what it feels like. millville, same story. north and west, cold. the pocono mountains, 27 degrees. a cold and breezy day ahead. we will get some sunshine with just a few scattered clouds. 43 degrees at 6:00. by 9:00, 45 and at 48 degrees at noontime, we'll be near 50 for the beginning of the parade. we'll go through the forecast hour by hour, neighborhood by neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. jessica boyington has first alert traffic. >> well, bill, we are watching an accident scene this early friday morning on the platt bridge.
actually right up ahead over here underneath our graphic you can see a little bit of flashing lights. that's the westbound side of the platt bridge. it's blocked off right now. at the bottom you can see them blocking the ram. police activity on the scene. that accident scene occurred and now we have no traffic moving, again, westbound on the platt bridge. eastbound lanes are open right now. still, this may be something if you head westbound on the platt in your morning commute, you'll want to take anç alternate. that's taking the girard point bridge this morning. out in south philadelphia, still watching this accident scene on columbus boulevard, that's closed at oregon avenue. your best bet, you can see it's in this general area. take delaware avenue and you'll be fine. for the most part, not a lot of volume in the area. 95 is looking okay and in the green if you want to jump on a highway. two people are dead in south philadelphia after a one-car crash along columbus boulevard.
nbc 10's deanna durante is live at the scene. what do we know so far? >> we do know two women are being treated at philadelphia hospitals. it appears as though the majority of the victims involved in the crash are philadelphia residents. police tell us they are still trying to identify one of the passengers killed in this crash. two people are dead. two people are in the hospital. the two people in the front seat of this 2005 mazda are being treated at two different hospitals this morning. the car was heading south on columbus boulevard, it hit the center median, the car flipped over at some point and also crashed into the corner of this building. this building appears to be a peco facility. police tell us it does not appear anyone was inside. witnesses that were on columbus boulevard that saw the car both before and after the crash, say they do believe that the car had been speeding. >> when i pulled up, the driver was laid across the front. the taxi cab driver stopped immediately after me. actually i was already stopped
and out of the car by the time he pulled up. he took her out of the car, the driver. >> the taxi cab driver took her out of the car? >> right. >> reporter: again, the driver of this vehicle, 23-year-old woman and her passenger both being treated at philadelphia hospital. the two back seat passengers, we are told, were killed, pronounced here on the scene. accident investigators trying to figure out if speed was a factor in this crash, if there were any other factors. philadelphia inspectors are inspecting the building. it doesn't appear anybody was inside the building, however, there is surveillance video police are looking at that they have from this building here as well as from one of the witnesses. that is the very latest, reporting live in south philadelphia, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. >> thanks, deanna. the woman accused of kidnapping a newborn from the
king of prussia mall was held in the montgomery county prison. she posted bail. she's schedule for a preliminary hearing a week from today. according to investigators, she's the woman in this surveillance video. the baby's mother says amore befriend her at a jewelry store in the mall and followed her and her familyç to the food court before stealing the baby right from his stroller. today it's time for the national champion villanova wildcats to celebrate their success. the team and fans are getting ready for a victory parade in philadelphia. here's a look at the parade route. it stretches five blocks. the parade begins at 1:00 this afternoon at 20th and market streets. from there, the parade will march through center city and end at dilworth park in front of city hall. yesterday, nbc 10 fond crews putting the finishing touches on preparations for today's victory celebration. fortunately they had to do it in
the rain. good thing today will be dry. barricades are in place along the route. it will end up at dilworth park, where head coach jay wright and the villanova players are expected to speak at a rally. if you can't see the parade in person, you can watch it right here on nbc 10. we will also be live streaming it on nbc10.com and on the nbc 10 app. our coverage starts at 1:00 this afternoon. a north carolina fan isn't taking the tar heels loss to villanova very well. he wants the ncaa to do something about it. michael klein filed this petition with the ncaa. he complained that the national championship game was in his words, poorly officiated and one-sided. he also said that the officials decided the game, not the players on the court. he wants the ncaa now to investigate. so far, the online petition has more than 2,000 supporters. one of a dozen drone command centers in the u.s. is now operating at an air guard base in montgomery county. the missions are being run out of the horsham air guard station
which was part of the willow grove naval station joint reserve base. the pennsylvania national guard's 103rd attack squadron launched its first drone mission last weekend. it's one of dozens of drone missions across the globe gathering intelligence. the drones are also armed with missiles that can strike a target if needed. in recent years, opponents of drone operations have held protests at the horsham base. under investigation but already making changes. there are still plenty of questions about this week's deadly amtrak derailment. hear what the feds are ordering amtrak to do immediately. and trump flags, also ahead, a new jersey man could end up in jail for showing support for his favorite candidate. the wind will be blowing all the flags today. it is a steady breeze in philadelphia. even at the shore. but it's a chilly one, too. 45 degrees here at nbc 10. it feels like it's in the 30s.

now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> skies are clear. it is chilly this morning. the wind is blowing and the temperatures have come down into the 40s. right now at northeast philadelphia airport, it's 45 degrees. 13 mile-an-hour wind. we're running 10 degrees colder than yesterday. but unlike yesterday, we are dry. you don't have to look too far to find snow showers this morning. they're moving through williamsport into the pocono mountains. very light stuff. as it blows into our area, it fizzles. look at the hour by hour forecast. a few scattered clouds by 7:00. we'll see the clouds thin out just in time for the parade this afternoon. an isolated shower is possible this morning. the rest of the day will be dry. the warmup, 50 for allentown and reading, 30s for the pocono mountains today. a steady breeze this afternoon,

watch for construction also out in philadelphia on passyunk avenue bridge eastbound between 28th street and broad street. the left lane will be closed there until about 5:00 this morning. you also additionally want to watch out for no parking signs over in center city because of the villanova parade later this morning. these no parking signs will go into effect at 6:00 a.m. today. no parking along the parade routes. you will be towed out of the way. we done the want that to happen. 15th and 23rd and between 15th street and the boulevard. preparing for the unthinkable. >> there's an intruder in the main hallway. >> this is only an emergency drill but it's helping to teach delaware students how to handle around armed intruder. we'll show you, next. plus, drinking game controversy. ahead, why this picture of students at a mercer county

john for students and staff yesterday as police carried out an active shooter training drill at alfred waters middle school in middletown. state police flooded the ha hallway. >> they'll be ready and their body will act on instinct the. >> the preparation that this school district does is phenomenal. we'd like to see more schools get on board with it. >> state police tell us that the students learned three key points from the disaster drill, know the plan, stay silent and follow every instruction. this morning, we are learning that amtrak workers are now taking part in safety reviews. this is all in response to a federal order following sunday's deadly train crash in delaware county. the fra told amtrak to go over track safe ten 'communication protocols with its staff. this comes as investigators are looking into sunday's crash in chester, delaware conte, that
killed two rail workers. part of the fra directive obtained by nbc 10 reminds amtrak that it must notify workersç if there are changes any job site and that track should not re-open until workers leave the area. >> there are operating rules in effect, which would certainly have prevented this accident had all of the rules been followed. >> one amtrak official tells nbc 10 that he agrees with the need to review safety rules and says that amtrak is working to implement a new compliance program. today a flight attendant accused of trying to smuggle drugs into the country is due in court for another bail hearing. prosecutors say marsha gay reynolds allegedly tried to bring 70 pounds of cocaine through security at lax several weeks ago. she managed to leave the airport andfully to new york where she turned herself into authorities. reynolds is back in los angeles where a bail hearing is schedule
for today. another post-indictment hearing is scheduled for latter this month on april 22nd. officials are concerned that the warmer weather could bring an invasion of the zika virus to our region this summer. montgomery county health officials warn it's possible that the mosquito-born virus could come to the philadelphia area. there are no mosquito-born cases in the u.s. pennsylvania does have a dozen confirmed cases of people affected who had travelled to other parts of the world. one kind of mosquito that could carry the virus is in the u.s. the centers for disease control say the range that insect could potentially extend into parts of pennsylvania, including philadelphia and all of new jersey and delaware. a man in north jersey is facing a $2,000 fine and three months in jail. his alleged crime? flying donald trump campaign flags outside of his home. the flags display the trump slogan "make america great
again." police ticketed him for illegally posting political signage more than 30 days before an election. new jersey's primary is coming up june 7th. hornick says he'll fight the citation and he's more concerned about people ripping down his flags. >> if they decide to rip another one of my glorious trump flags, i will immediately put another one up. >> i'm not a football fan. i'm not a sports fan but i'm surrey surely a donald trump fan. >> he defended his first amendment right saying his flags are fan flags, not political signs. 4:49 on this friday. temperatures in the 40s right now. jessica boyington is continuing to watch some trouble out there in south philly, particularly on the platt bridge. jess? >> right, rosemary. we have a busy morning ahead of us already. then stretching into this afternoon for the villanova parade. first, what's going on right now, the platt bridge around penrose avenue and 26th street,
of course. we have that police activity here. approaching the westbound side of the platt bridge. there are vehicles over here. that's the eastbound side. that's open to traffic. up into the center or at least approaching the midspan of the bridge, more police activity right up there. that's where that accident scene has occurred. that's why we have earlier road flares blocking off the westbound side. the alternate is the girard point bridge to get by, adding ten minutes or so to your morning commute. watching south philadelphia for the accident scene on columbus boulevard closing it around oregon avenue. there's a lot of mass transit changes today for the villanova parade. septa is adding trains, and the regional rails will be running every 30 minutes to provide extra trains for travelers into center city. the septa buses will be detoured between 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. tonight. this is a whole big list of the septa buses. check the septa website for more
details. we'll keep you updated for the rest of the morning, for your morning commute and what's again on with the nova parade later on. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> nine minutes before 5:00. right now it is chilly and the wind is blowing to make it feel colder. the wind chills are in the 30s while the temperatures are in the 40s. the wind out of the west at 22 miles an hour. won't be all that strong but it will be with us into this afternoon. we'll see sunshine today and that includes ha s haverton. nice and dry but chilly. the wind out of the west in pottstown, northeast philadelphia, 13 miles an hour. about the same for wilmington. that will blow some of the clouds into the area. behind these clouds are snow showers. the snow showers should fizzle before they reach our area but don't be surprised if you see a sprinkle or even a few flurries during the day today. this won't be a problem.
tomorrow, this may be. we'll see rain and snow in the area from this storm system. the hour by hour future for today shows we'll be in the clear as far as rainfall. the snow will be falling, along with rain tomorrow. partly sunny, breezy and the afternoon temperatures in the 50s with westerly winds to 20 miles an hour come tomorrow yes, light accumulation, especially a little farther to the northwest but it will change over to rain. it's more of a nuisance more than anything. it's going to be a quick mover. it will be here on saturday and gone by sunday. with sunshine, 51 degrees on sun. warmer monday but there is a chance of showers late in the day. high of 62 degrees. then cooler, a chilly rain possible on tuesday. those showers will be out of here for wednesday and a nice one thursday. >> 4:52 right now. we continue to follow breaking news out of south philadelphia. police are investigating this deadly crash that killed two people. as you canç see, it's still an

when i'm back in the 5:00 hour. there may be one last chance to get the house of a south philly mob boss recognized as a historical site. the historical commission meets today. among the items on the agenda is the nomination of mob boss angelo bruno's row home. he was killed in front of this house in 1980. his daughter an a criminologist who wrote a book about bruno brought their request to the commission earlier this year. a photo of a beer pong game is creating controversy on social media and a group of new jersey students is apparently behind it. this picture was posted to snapchat. it shows a group of princeton high school students playing a game called jews versus nazis beer pong. several of the underage students have been identified. one is the son of a school district employee. the superintendent of the
schools says i am deeply upset that our students chose to engage in a drinking game which is clearly anti-semitic. an incident such as this one forces to us take a hard look at our efforts in educating our children. now to our decision 2016 coverage. it's likely voters know more about the democratic candidates for attorney general following the debate on nbc 10. the contenders are northampton county district attorney john morganel morganelli, stevphen zappala an shapiro. all three democrats said they will restore confidence in the office they seek. they said that in light of kane facing criminal charges for

are trying to improve the way they interact with folks in the community. >> yes, that includes adults and children who have autism. the community group provided training for the officers yesterday. they taught the first responders how to notice the signs of autism when responding to call. things like not following commands or not making eye contact and meltdowns. officers were given the skills to de-escalate those situations. >> it's more staying calm and just asking, how can we help you? what can i do for you? real estating yourself and try to stay as calm as possible. >> they chose to offer the trading now because it's autism awareness month and the organization wants to raise awareness about the disorder. you're watching nbc 10 news.
